2012 Gratitude/Accomplishment List: Performing at The Hard Rock Cafe

TBA at The Hard Rock Cafe

TBA at The Hard Rock Cafe
(TBA from L-R: Mike, Tateen, Lehmann, and me; not in picture: Audi)

It may not have been a real gig but a performance is a performance, and being able to say that I’ve performed on stage at the Hard Rock Cafe in Glorietta is one of the things I can be proud of this 2012. I mean, I’m not even really a musician. So the chances of performing at that kind of place is was pretty improbable, right?

Our team / department / whatever-you-call-it held this year’s Christmas party at the Hard Rock Cafe in Glorietta and they included a “Battle of the Bands” in the program. We decided to join but it wasn’t easy to prepare for the performance itself. We weren’t able to practice that much (we had 2 real practices?) since we had to squeeze practicing with our work schedules. It was also difficult to pick songs since the theme of the party was “Glam Rock” and wanted to stay as close to the theme as possible. And considering that neither Tateen nor I were “rockers”, our song choices were quite limited. Still, I think we did pretty well. And it was nice to not be in the last place. 😛

(That’s probably thanks to Lehmann who’s a wicked awesome guitar player. :D\m/)

I still don’t think I’m cut out for a career in music but it was a cool experience to be able to perform at Hard Rock. 🙂

Anyway, just an hour left until year 2013. Enjoy the last minutes left to the year 2012. 😀

Until next time dear readers! (^^)/~~

PS. I’ll probably include links to our performance video/s once I’ve uploaded them on YouTube. 🙂

Iron Children by Rachel Macwhirter

So, I wanted to make a blog post for The Hunger Games movie but I’m still not feeling very literate at the moment. I think my brain’s totally fried from the stress of work. Not that I’m not enjoying work, because I am, but we’ve just been so busy that I haven’t had much time to write. I’ll write a decent blog post soon, promise. 🙂

Anyway, going back, since I can’t find the words right now, I decided to post this Hunger Games inspired original song by Rachel Macwhirter. I really love her songs. 🙂 I wanted to post her other song, Mockingjay, but I figured that this song is better suited for the first book in the series.

Enjoy! 🙂

LIV5, The Glorietta Show

LIV5 @ Glorietta

LIV5 @ Glorietta

Last Friday, February 17, 2012, my sister and I, along with her friend Erika, watched the LIV5 concert at the Glorietta Activity Center. All I can say is that it was uber awesome! 😀

Instead of me rambling about how much I loved the show, especially the part about watching one of my favorite bands, A Rocket to the Moon, perform, I’ll just leave you with a few videos I took of the performances and links to my Facebook photo albums containing pictures I took during the concert. Enjoy! 🙂

Isn’t it obvious that I love A Rocket to the Moon? ;P

I’m really super glad I got to watch LIV5 with my sister. I hope that we’ll be able to watch more awesome concerts some day. The last concert we watched before this was The Click Five concert which was around 3-4 years ago. 🙂

Anyway, it’s time for me to sleep. I have a pretty long day at work tomorrow. Nightie night readers! (^^)/~~

Music: Safe and Sound – Taylor Swift (feat. The Civil Wars)

Safe and Sound - Taylor Swift (feat. The Civil Wars)

Safe and Sound - Taylor Swift (feat. The Civil Wars)

At the moment, the whole The Hunger Games world is abuzz with the news announced on Taylor Swift’s Twitter account just an hour ago. The Hunger Games movie soundtrack will feature a song by Taylor Swift (and The Civil Wars) entitled Safe and Sound. There’s speculation that this is not official yet since Lionsgate hasn’t released a statement regarding this BUT considering the fact that the news comes from Taylor herself and the album cover for the song on iTunes is the same as mentioned by Taylor, I think it’s safe to assume that this will be part of the soundtrack.

When I first read the news that Taylor Swift’s part of The Hunger Games movie soundtrack, I was skeptical. I have nothing against Taylor but all of her songs that I know of don’t scream (or whisper) “The Hunger Games material” for me. Of course, that just piqued my curiosity since I really wanted to see hear if Taylor Swift can pull off a song worthy of The Hunger Games.

The verdict? I was pleasantly surprised. The melody is haunting and I love that Taylor had some “breathy” parts in the song. It added to the sweetness of the melody. The lyrics were also beautiful and had a tinge of sadness even if it’s a love song.

Anyway, here’s the song for those of you who want to listen to it. 🙂

What did you think? Did you think Taylor was able to deliver a song that fits The Hunger Games? Tell me your thoughts in the comments. I’d love to hear from you.

Just close your eyes,
The sun is going down.
You’ll be all right
No one can hurt you now
Come morning light,
You and I’ll be safe and sound.
