Second Chances

Jonah Waits Under the Tree

Jonah, hoping that God will still strike down the Ninevites even after they had repented, waits on top of a mountain where God allows a tree to grow to shade Jonah from the beating heat of the sun.

Our family (sans our mum) attended a lenten recollection of the CFC-FFL at the Xavier High School Auditorium last March 21. We actually arrived late but was able to catch the second talk. The speaker was the president of Xavier, Fr. Johnny Go, and he gave a wicked awesome talk.

His talk was about the sign of Jonah, part of the gospel reading for that day. Fr. Go spoke of how Jonah fell into the dungeon on failure and went on to explain how Jesus went to that same dungeon, allowing people to regard him as a loser. It was a great message. I love that Fr. Go explained how it’s way better to have an all powerful God who allowed himself to experience failure, making him relatable to us.

One of the other messages the speaker gave was that we had infinite chances with God. This message seemed to resonate throughout that day with the homily given by the priest during the mass we attended centered on this topic. And during that time, I was reminded of this song by Stellar Kart.

This song comes from Stellar Kart’s first album, All Gas, No Break and is one of my favorite songs in that album. It tells exactly how we have infinite chances with God because every chance is the first one. It’s an inspiring song and I really love that i can share it with all of you. Enjoy. 😀

Second Chances
Stellar Kart

No matter what you did or might do again
Following all the worthless trends
You know he’s waiting patiently
From now until forever

Brokenhearted and confused
Feeling like you’ve been abused
The second chances never end
From now until forever

There will always be second chances
And you’ll always be on your first try

There will always be second chances
And you’ll always be on your first try

You try and you try but you’re never ahead of the game
And you’re wondering why you’re on your face again
You feel like you’ve been left alone

You try and you try but you’re never ahead of the game
And you’re wondering why you’re on your face again
You feel like you’ve been left alone

There will always be second chances
And you’ll always be on your first try

There will always be second chances
And you’ll always be on your first try

There will always be second chances
And you’ll always be on your first try

There will always be second chances
And you’ll always be on your first try
Forever, Forever, Forever, Forever, Forever…

PS. The Book of Jonah ends on an interesting note. It’s quite a good read. Short but full of substance.
